Tom Slater




Born and based in London UK, Tom Slater is an artist and researcher who works with 3D audio systems, light and physical computing to build immersive audiovisual environments. Currently a director of Call & Response and PhD researcher at University College Falmouth, Tom’s creative practice revolves around how sound and image producing technologies affect our understanding of terms like virtuality and disembodiment.

Call & Response (C&R) are Tom Slater, Jeremy Keenan and Matt Lewis: a group of sound and audiovisual artists who run a sound art gallery and immersive audio production facility in London, UK. From this space they curate and produce immersive audiovisual artworks using their unique 16-speaker ambisonic sound system. Additionally they deliver workshops and training in immersive audio production for industry professionals, young people and artists interested in using sound in their work. C&R have previously undertaken audio consultancy, project design and delivery for organisations including; Sense, Heart n Soul, NESTA, Southbank Centre, Folkestone Triennial, Turner Contemporary and Martin Creed. Over the past 5 years C&R has received of funds from Arts Council England, PRSF, Daphne Oram Trust, Sound and Music, Sound Connections and Deptford Challenge Trust.
