Biosphere

Biosphere is the main recording name of Geir Jenssen, a Norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient electronic music. He is well known for his ‘ambient techno’ and ‘arctic ambient’ styles, his use of music loops and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. His 1997 album Substrata is generally seen as one of the all time classic ambient albums. Biosphere regularly performs live during electronic music festivals and in clubs throughout Europe and around the world.

Biosphere creates immersive atmospheres in which time and space are being anatomized. He scrolls through surfaces, constructs machinery, and unravels microscopic electronic patterns. His architectural approach emphasizes space, on either a hyper level or wide open fields. Biosphere’s arctic homeland Norway sets the scenery of many of his musical projects, but also other locations and conditions have been subject to his work, like the instability of Japan’s nuclear power plants.
