AV Graph: 4DSOUND (2017)

Marcel Smit

During the summer of 2017, Marcel Smit spent one and a half months at the Spatial Sound Institute, Budapest. During his residency he worked on a spatial sound installation which incorporated themes from the ecology of bird song and the Surinamese tradition of bird competitions.

As a result he developed a spatial sound design which ensembled field recordings of bird songs, interview fragments and synthesized sound and worked on a custom app written in C++ which was used as the source of the synthesized sound and as the performance tool.

Also, he contributed to his ‘AV Graph' project , which aims to build an Open Source data flow environment, consisting a creative coding framework as the base layer, a visual graph editor, and two backend implementations: one for sound synthesis and the other for synthesizing visuals.
