Physique (2017)
Maxime Gordon
Maxime Gordon’s piece ‘Physique’ is a recording of the most intimate of human sounds: her own breath, touch and teeth clattering (among others). She explores how human bodies can be represented and understood by sonic technology. Therefore, Physique uses recordings of her body to create a dynamic sound scape.
By compelling the audience to just listen to her body she does away with its most fundamental element – its physicality. Gordon asks us to understand the human form in another way: through sound. Her piece gives the listener an emotional and uncomfortable experience of the body. The effect is that of a human machine - a steam engine of sinews and bones.
Maxime Gordon’s piece was part of 4DSOUND: A RETROSPECTIVE presented at MONOM, Funkhaus, Berlin.
